En rask sykkel på tross av vekt

Hvis du klarer å se vekk fra navnet, er denne cyclocrossen fra White en solid og grei modell for deg som ikke er for opptatt av vekt, men som tenker mer på at sykkelen skal funke. Og kanskje har du det ikke så travelt heller.

Sykkelens geometri er spot-on. Den oppfører seg pent og gjør som regel det vi ber om. Høye hastigheter, tekniske partier, klatringer og svinger på grusen går unna som vi ønsker. Komforten i ramma på de tekniske partiene hvor det er mye risting, slag og manøvrering kunne vært bedre. Vi opplever ramma som veldig stiv. Det er ønskelig med litt mer kontakt med underlaget.

Der ramma er ganske stiv og utilgivende kan man kompensere noe med dekk. Continental-dekkene er oppgitt til å være 35c, men vi målte de til 33c (samme som Kenda-dekkene på Everest som er oppgitt til å være 32c). Hadde de virkelig vært 35c kunne vi hentet enda mer komfort, kontroll og grep herfra.

Continental-dekkene ruller ekstremt godt og på tross av at de veier mer enn for eksempel Kenda-dekkene på Everest, ville jeg helt klart brukt disse.

Dessverre er de montert på et hjulsett som er det tyngste vi har testet de siste årene. De er mange hundre gram tyngre enn sykler som har kostet mange tusenlapper mer. Det er ikke godt nok i denne prisklassen, så her må White stramme inn litt.

White har valgt å utstyre sykkelen med en dobbel krank fra Shimano. Største skive er på 52. Vi tenker at det er i overkant. Den største skiva kunne med fordel ha vært en 50, og kassetten bak kunne gått opp til 32. Denne typen sykler skal opp bratte kneiker og det er mye giring involvert i skiftende terreng og på variabelt underlag. I denne prisklassen tenker vi at det er mer fornuftig å hjelpe syklistene med lettere gir.

Konklusjon

SYKKEL konkluderer med at White har et potensial og grunnmuren er solid og rett. Få på lettere hjul og en litt annen utveksling så kan dette konkurrere med de beste på markedet.
